Series and episode overview by Tricia Helfer Fan:
Franklin & Bash is a legal dramedy from TNT about Jared Franklin (Meyer) and Peter Bash (Gosselaar), two defense attorneys and lifelong friends whose courtroom antics are often as frustrating as they are effective, who are unexpectedly recruited by a major partner in the prestigious law firm Infeld-Daniels after winning a high-profile case against one of the firm’s top lawyers.
In episode “Go Tell It on the Mountain”, when Stanton Infeld (McDowell) is charged with murder, he personally selects Franklin and Bash to work on his defense with Brett Caiman, a high-profile attorney from the firm’s New York office, but it soon becomes evident that someone is trying to sabotage the case. Meanwhile, Hanna (Beauvais) represents a wrestler (Trejo) being forced out by his employer for being too old.
* * * *
Tricia Helfer portrays Brett Caiman, a foxy but shrewd attorney on the rise, sent from the firm’s New York office to oversee Stanton’s trial.
[Hanna: "But why are we hearing this from you?"]
“New York wanted someone sent out to oversee things until the situation plays itself out.”
[Karp: "Well, enjoy your stay, coz I don't work for you."]
“Actually, you do.”
“You two busy? I’ve got something to show you.”
[Franklin: "Actually, we're gonna go see Infeld right now."]
“Yeah, it’s not a request.”
“When I started out at the DA’s office they taught me it was critical to see the most important witness, the one the jury never gets to hear from. The victim.”
[Bash walks in on a half-naked Brett in Stanton's office]
[Bash: "I'm starting to put together the character witn... Oh wow!]
“Peter!”
[Bash: "I, ahh... I should've knocked. I'll just, um... leave these?"]
“Relax. I um… need your help with something.”
[Bash: "Hmm. Okay."]
“It involves you looking at me…?”
[Bash turns to look at Brett]
“I’m going on Anderson Cooper, see if we can’t influence the jury pool a little. Which outfit’s better?”
“Peter, are you sure you’re keeping me looped in about everything?”
“I know you and Franklin bend the rules. I won’t have it. Not on this case. Stakes are too high.”
[Bash: "Jared and I will handle argument. Karp is better at motions, case citations..."]
“You mean, boring grown-up stuff that wins trials.”
“You and Franklin. Don’t screw it up.”
“Hanna! I heard you signed Triple B Electronics, that’s a huge get!”
[Hanna: "Good news travels fast!"]
“You know, I wanted to make sure that you were okay about not being on the trial team? I pushed for you.”
[Hanna: "I'm not gonna second-guess Stanton."]
“Well, if you’re ready to work where female partners are given more than lip service…”
“One of my law school professors is on the committee. I got you bumped up the list. I’d prefer to keep it between us, it’s a little sensitive.”
“You wanna help? Step aside. It’s the toughest thing to do, but sometimes it’s a smart move.”
[Franklin: "What are you up to?"]
“Why don’t we take this in my office.”
[Bash: "What, you mean Stanton's office?"]
“I’m not going to apologize for following the rules.”
[Franklin: "We've got a case to win. Our way."]
“I hope you do. For all your sakes.”
[Karp: "Brett! Got a minute?"]
“I’ve got one. What can I help you with?”
“And how would you know that?”

Personal Thoughts
Sandra: Franklin & Bash was a completely new show to me. Although I follow the career doings of my favorite actors (including Tricia) almost religiously, the cast of the show is largely unknown to me and I’m at the same time not very good at following shows I don’t have that connection with. That said, judging from the one episode I’ve now seen, though a bit conventional, the show looks quite promising overall both premise- and casting-wise, and if the writers would just be allowed to move out of the comedy comfort zone just a little bit next season, I think Franklin & Bash will become a big hit. (And personally, I always love me some legal entertainment.)
As Brett in episode “Go Tell it on the Mountain”, Tricia is excellent throughout, playing her role with exactly the kind of coolness and control the character requires. Despite the compulsory lingerie scene (:P), the role definitely leans more towards the seriousness of e.g. Tricia’s Naomi on Lie to Me as far as guest appearances go, and as such I enjoyed it a lot. Wouldn’t mind seeing her revisit it some time!
